The Problem With Modern Day Motorsports

What global motorsports has turned into is only a small shell of what it used to be. Yes there are some old school racers out there still but in the era of social media the commercialism is hurting the sport tremendously. Sadly the days of someone putting a good old fashioned butt kicking of a complete field are gone. Partly in fact to higher competition partly due to more "SPEC" rules packages. now you may say look at what Vettel did last year, well yes he pretty much did what he wanted, he also had the full support of his team which I don't think Mark Webber had. The commercialism of NASCAR will one day be its demise, sadly I fear that will be sooner than later. It always has been money buys wins, but every now and then the little man could do what the big dogs did. When David Ragan won in Talladega last year, this was a throwback to the days where the little man did well. But look at the chase, a marketing made way to make sure the popular drivers have a shot at a championship. The whole deal at Richmond was wrong, but adding a driver to the chase was ASININE!!! No matter if that driver was Jeff Gordon or if it was Jamie McMurray it wouldn't matter who it was it would been wrong. Ask a NASCAR fan today who Alan Kulwicki  is, I would almost bet at best they may say he was the 1992 Winston Cup Champion, at best someone may know this. What the answer should be one of the best champions NASCAR has ever had. The last little man conquering the big money teams. And beat two strong teams to win his championship. So back to the subject at hand. Now that I ranted about NASCAR, lets look at F1. The days of a midfield team stealing a win are about gone. Or anyone that's not Red Bull for that matter. The new regs for 2014 may somewhat even the playing field but as bad as I personally hate to admit it considering I'm not a Vettel fan, probably not because Vettel is so good. But besides the whole one person winning all the races which isn't really a new thing look at well every year, F1 is branching out into many new markets or old ones that they had went away from. In my opinion it wasn't a world championship, it was a European championship. But now with 2 races in North America with the possibility of 4 by 2015, plus adding Russia and Austria along with the Middle East and Asia expansion over the past few years it looks like a world championship based on variety of venues. Maybe not drivers so much as most of them are from Europe, but it is a European based sport. The what ifs is actually a planned rant at another time so I will not go into the what if so and so was in F1. Or what tracks would provide good races that's another rant. But for now I will get off the soap box, but I will leave one thing for the "newer" race fan that will think I'm just a old fart who cant change with the times. Go to your local track oval or road dirt or asphalt. Watch your local racers you will see a glimpse of the pre marketing days where racing was completely pure, heated, and had a real drama not caused by the TV Companies. Have a Wonderful Day

A Intro To The Ranting

Well the title of the blog says it all, the ranting of A Old School Race Fan. Now I am sure i will get comments from the die hard F1,NASCAR,INDY,And Sports car fans saying I'm biased. But I will tell you this. I am a RACE FAN, not just F1,NASCAR,INDY or Sports Car. In time there will be rants on all those topics but I have some topics in mind that I will be working on. In the mean time I will be working on the first rant.
